Green Horses- Are You The One?

In my riding career I have not had as much as experience as I WOULD of like. There is always a shoulda, coulda, woulda, lingering on my shoulders. Although I can say I am blessed to have been able to work with the horses I have. I decided I wanted to share some of my experiences to those who are considering buying a green horse to bring along. There is always pros and cons to buying and buying a green horse. It is up to you to decide which path is right for you. Below I have shared a few thing you should take into consideration.

One of the perks of finding a green horse can be a price point. Buying a horse who needs the training and miles vs. already having it under his/her belt chances are it can really make a different on the price. Now that is not something you should only consider when looking into buying a green bean. Although it is a key part. Think of it as an investment. Five years from now could you have the proper miles and training on this horse and sell it for a profit if you do not feel he/she isn’t working out for you(I am not talking about horse flipping though remember that).

Do you have the experience and proper guidance(IE:Trainer!!!!) in order to bring this green bean along? If not I strongly urge you stray from this path or find someone tp help you on this path. Training a horse wrong and instilling bad habits into him/her will only lead to problems down the road.

Are you willing to put in the time it takes to put the miles on this green bean? It is no walk in the park. It takes elbow grease and dedication in order to get them to the point you want them. Although they do say work hard, player harder! Am I right?

Lastly do you have the patience to do what it takes to get this horse where he/she needs to be. Yes it gets frustrating. Yes there will be loads of green horse moments, but thats the nature of the game. If you cannot handle it I suggest not choosing this path. Patience is KEY in bringing up the green beans.

These are only a few of many factors you should take into account before buying a green bean. Do not feel discouraged if it is not for you. If you think it is for you It is so so important to remember that to achieve great things you must work hard. Having the patience now will result in a great reward later when the pieces all fall together. That in and out of itself makes it worth it.
